You can use this guide for taking apart Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 and M15 notebooks. Both models are very similar.
Let me tell you right away, this notebooks tend to overheat because the heatsink easily gets clogged with dust and lint. Take a look at the step 4, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Does you laptop shuts down without any warning in the middle of doing something? The fan runs full speed all the time? If yes, then check the heatsing. Most likely it’s clogged and your laptop overheats. You can easily fix this problem by removing and cleaning the heatsink.
Unfortunately, the cooling fan is these models is buried deep inside the case. If the fan went bad, you’ll have to take the whole thing apart. The fan is shown on the step 22.
Fell free to submit any comments and questions related to these models. If I know the answer, I’ll try to help you.
These both notebook models, Satellite A10 and Satellite A15 are similar, so you can use the same disassembly guide for both models.
Overheating is a very common issue with these notebooks. It happens because dust get trapped between the cooling fan and the heatsink. Fortunately, it is very easy to access the cooling fan and clean it up. All you have to do is remove the fan cover as it shown on steps 2 and 3 and then remove and clean the heatsink, as it shown on steps 5 and 6. Alternatively, you can leave the heatsink connected to the laptop and remove the cooling fan instead. After the heatsink (or the cooling fan) is removed, thoroughly clean both parts with compressed air.
If you are removing the heatsink, make sure to apply some thermal grease on the CPU before you assemble everything back together. If you install the heatsink without thermal grease, the notebook will overheat.
In order to remove the CD/DVD drive, you’ll have to remove two screws. One screw is located on the bottom of the laptop, close to the DVD drive. The second screw is located under the keyboard, as it shown on the step 13. After both screws are removed, just push the drive from the case.
Here are compete notebook disassembly instructions.
Toshiba Satellite M55 laptop is a pretty new model with 14.1-inch TruBrite widescreen display. The guide will show you how to open laptop display assembly if you want to remove and replace the screen. Even though I didn’t picture the battery removal step in my guide, you should always start laptop disassembly with removing the battery. The LCD screen mask is shaped a little bit different then on older laptops and it might take more time to remove it from the display assembly. I usually start LCD mask removal around the hinge area. Place fingers between the mask and the screen and wiggle it a little bit until you feel that latches are released. It is hard to explain how much you have to flex the mask not to crack it, just be very careful and do not hurry. After the latches on the bottom of the mask are released, you can start separating the mask from the display assembly on the sides and finally on the top. The FL inverter board in this model is located under the laptop speakers. To get access to the Fl inverter board cables you have to unscrew the speakers and put them a little bit aside. The best way to find a spare LCD screen is to use a Toshiba part number on the back of the screen. The part number can be located on a sticker and it look like this: K0000270850
Removing and replacing the keyboard on Toshiba Satellite A55 laptop wouldn’t be any different then replacing the keyboard on any other Toshiba laptop. Before you open the laptop case, remove the battery. The keyboard securing strip doesn’t have any securing screws and shouldn’t cause any problem when you remove it. The keyboard cable connector on the system board is cover by a metal plate and the plate has to be removed before you can get an access to the connector. Before you pull the keyboard cable from the connector you have to unlock it. To open the connector, move the connector lock toward the LCD screen. It is enough to move it 2-3mm to open the connector. Be careful with the keyboard connector on the system board. If you damage it, the entire system board has to be replaced.
By the way, if you want to remove the motherboard, you should take a look at the Toshiba Tecra A2 disassembly guide. Both laptops are very similar.
You can use the Toshiba Satellite 5205 guide for removing and replacing the DVD/CD-ROM drive or the keyboard. On this model you have to remove the keyboard in order to remove and replace the DVD/CD-ROM drive because the optical drive securing screw is located under the keyboard. Always start laptop disassembly with removing the battery or you can damage the system board if you accidentally touch it with a screwdriver and shorten traces. Removing the keyboard strip is not very difficult, use your fingers to release the plastic latches. If you want to replace the keyboard, do not forget to unlock the connector on the system boar before you pull the cable.
Removing and replacing memory on a Toshiba Satellite A20 or A25 notebook is not as easy ad it should be. Both memory modules are located under the keyboard. A laptop keyboard has to be replaced in order to get access to the memory modules. Before you remove the keyboard do not forget to remove the laptop battery or you can damage the laptop. Be careful when you remove the keyboard securing strip; do not bend it too much. To remove the memory module from the slot on the system board, release the latches on both sides and the memory module will pop up. It will stay at a 30 degree angle to the system board. Firmly grasp the memory module and remove it from the slot.
Overheating is a very common issue with Toshiba Satellite P30 and P35 laptops. If your laptop suddenly shuts down by itself and the bottom of the laptop base is very hot then most likely the laptop overheats. It happens because the heatsink gets completely clogged with lint and dust and doesn’t disperse the heat properly. Unfortunately, this model doesn’t have a hatch for an easy heatsink access. To remove and clean the heatsink the laptop has to be taken apart completely. Disassembly process is very similar to Toshiba Satellite A70 and A75 model. After you remove and clean the heatsink you should apply new thermal grease on the CPU, do not use old grease. You can buy thermal grease in any local computer shop or online. Artic Silver is a good brand.
If you are not sure that you can take apart the laptop, do not open the case. Try to clean the heatsink and cooling fans with compressed air first. Buy a can of compressed air and blow inside the openings on the bottom of the laptop. If the heatsink is not clogged completely, this measure might be enough to fix the laptop overheating problem.
Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 disassembly guide will help you completely take apart the notebook to remove and replace the system board, the power board and the video board. Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 notebook has some known problems very similar to Toshiba Tecra TE2100. Overtime the video card pops up from the connector on the system board causing unpredictable video problems. If you experience a video problem try to press on the video board so it makes a better connection with the system board. Also you can experience a problem with starting the laptop. When you press on the power button the laptop will not start and the power LED flashes orange. Most of the time it happens because of a poor connection between the power board and the system board. In some cased you can fix the problem by reseating the power board. If reseating the board doesn’t help then the system board and the power board has to be replaced. One more problem - you can get the CMOS (RTC) battery error each time you turn on the laptop. If replacing the battery doesn’t fix the problem then it might be also caused a bad connection between the power board and the system board. Try to reseat the power board.
Today we are going to remove and replace broken display hinges on Toshiba Satellite A20 or A25 laptop. Replacing broken laptop hinges is a very time consuming repair because you have to take apart the laptop base and the laptop display. This guide has a lot of disassembly steps, so make sure to memorize the disassembly process. For all removed screws I usually use plastic caps. I mark these caps by layers: bottom, keyboard, under keyboard, system board, LCD mask, screen, etc. You can use your own names. It also would be very useful to make some notes so you can use it when assembling the laptop after the repair.
Here are the left and right hinge part numbers for Toshiba Satellite A20 and A25 laptops:
Brake hinge, right: P000378510
Brake hinge, left: P000368300
You can search for these parts on ebay on via google. Be prepared, hinges are very expensive.
Toshiba Satellite M45 display disassembly guide will help you to remove the LCD screen and replace the FL inverter board. It is very easy to take the laptop display assembly apart, but you have to be careful. Never use screwdrivers to separate the LCD mask from the screen top cover! To remove the LCD screen mask use your finger. Put your fingers between the LCD mask and the screen and start separating the mask from the LCD screen cover. Sometimes, when the mask plastic latches are tight, I use a guitar pick to disengage them. I put the guitar pick between the mask and the top cover and slowly move it along the side. The screen mask is made of very thin plastic and you can easily break it if you not careful. After the mask is removed, everything is straight forward. In this model the video cable is glued to the LCD screen so you have to use some force to separate it from the screen. When you unplug the inverter board cables do not pull the wires. Use the connector edges to unplug it.
