How to take apart Toshiba Tecra A2 laptop
This guide shows how to take apart a Toshiba Tecra A2 laptop. I am taking apart the laptop because I have to remove and replace the motherboard.
In a Tecra A2 laptop many major components can be accessed from the bottom. Simply by removing a few doors from the bottom of the laptop, you can access and replace the hard dive, memory, wireless card, dial up modem. Also you can access the processor and clean the heat sink.
The keyboard removal instructions could be found in steps 8-12. The DVD dive can be removed only after you remove one screw securing the drive under the keyboard.
The rest of the disassembly guide explains how to split the laptop case and remove the motherboard. By the way, if you want to replace the cooling fan you don’t have to remove the motherboard, but you still have to remove the top cover assembly as it shown on the step 20.

Hi. Many thanks for the guide. I’m looking to replace the fan on my A2 which has gone very quiet and caused the laptop to get incredibly hot.
Which steps can I skip while disassembling the laptop if all I need to change is the fan? I don’t want to do more than is necessary as I don’t want to risk breaking anything!
Cheers,
Charlie

Question: The ‘on/off’ switch for the wireless LAN on my Tecra A2 has fallen off while the wireless was set to ‘off’. Is there a fix to get the wireless working? NB. no software fix works, it has to be a hardware fix.
