Cheers cj2600

I've had a good look and there is no liquid on the MB - the inverter is a little sticky from the coke her son spilt on the screen. Im guessing and told it only ran down the screen.

The screen is very dark to the point where you can hardly see it. Does it sound like a dead inverter?

DAN,

I’m trying to fix my friends Satellite L305d
Her son spilt a drink down the lcd screen. Everything works find on the laptop but the backlight appears to not be working now.

Any ideas why it isnt working??? I have no idea what an inverter does?

With liquid spills it's hard to tell what is wrong. Do you know if liquid went down to the motherboard?
The inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp inside the LCD screen. Without inverter (or failed inverter) the image will be very very dark.

Hello All!

First, I'd like to thank cj2600 for the awesome guide! Very detailed. I like your work. I also wanted to see if you have a suggestion regarding my video card. Can it be replaced at all? I have seen many hits on google stating that you can't. I have an L305 and need better graphics for using sketchup and Autodesk Revitt Architecture, 3D software. Anyways, a detailed guide such as the one you posted but for replacing my graphics card is what I need. Hopefully this can be done.

Hi. I replaced my Toshiba Satellite L305's broken screen with a friend's Toshiba screen. His inverter wasn't working so I used mine (well, the same type as mine, my original inverter broke so I ordered one online). The screen back light would stop working randomly or anytime there's a drastic resolution change, like when I hook it up to my television and unhook it or closing the lid then reopening it. I would open the lid and the screen would flash on for a second then the back light would turn off again. Also when ever the brightness goes down to a certain level, the inverter a loud noise. Is the problem the compatibility with the screen and the inverter?

Nick,

jarred toshiba l305 laptop while running, now getting unmountable boot volume message and stop codes 0X000000ED (0X85D31D68, 0XC0000185, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). making funny noise when trying to start. no luck with safe mode. try resetting hard drive, maybe?

Is the noise coming from the hard drive area? Could be bad hard drive.
You can remove the hard drive and boot the laptop from Live Linux CD (Knoppix for example). If the laptop works fine with Knoppix, most likely the hardware is good.
Here's how to create and boot from Knoppix CD.
