How to access hard dive in Toshiba Satellite E105 laptop
This guide explains how to access the hard drive in a Toshiba Satellite E105 laptop. Unlike any other Toshiba laptop, in this model you cannot remove anything from the bottom except the battery.
In order to remove or replace the hard drive from a Satellite E105, you’ll have to disassemble the whole laptop and remove the top cover assembly.
Both memory modules and DVD drive can be removed if you remove the keyboard first. The keyboard removal procedure is explained in steps 1-6. If you are using this guide for replacing or upgrading memory modules, do not disconnect the keyboard. Simply flip it over but keep connected to the motherboard.
If you accidentally break the keyboard cable connector on the motherboard, you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard so be very careful.

I have this laptop with a faild hard drive. I don’t want to buy a new 320GB hard drive vecause I have another 160GB SATA hard drive. Do you think I can install a smaller drive or the laptop requires the same or larger drive?

Alisa,
Yes, you can do that. As long as your new hard drive is a SATA drive, you can install a smaller one.

How do I find the drivers for Toshiba MK3252GSX(S1) HDD? It is a SATA drive and I think the drivers have been damaged by a virus. This is for Windows Vista. Any help is appreciated. This HDD is in a Toshiba E105-S1402 that is a little overr a month old.

ml72,
What is your problem? Normally you don’t need to load drivers for the hard drive, it’s plug-n-play.

Is it possible to change the poor speakers for a better one? And if it is, could you tell me the dimensions of the original speaker and/or recommend a speaker brand/type?

Thanks for the great tutorial. My dumb yellow lab recently spilled soda on my laptop. My keys are sticking, which is quite annoying. So i am going to attempt to change my keyboard with the assistance of your website. Is it possible to change the speakers like peter is asking? They do suck, but I did know that going in.

Desiree,
You can buy any 2.5″ SATA hard drive for notebooks. They all similar. Any brand should works just fine.
Even larger HDD, 500GB should work.
Again, search for a 2.5″ SATA hard drive for notebooks.

I was pressing on the touch pad buttons on my wife’s E105-S1602 yesterday and the left button got knocked out of whack. It still works but sits lower than it used to. It would seem to me that something snapped, but I do not want to open up the laptop for fear of voiding the warranty, which it is still under. Do you have any thoughts on what might have happened?

I am trying to take the keyboard out and there seems to be another screw or something holding it down. Should it be that difficult? Don’t want to break it.

Darrel Marlethorpe,
I think it’s difficult because the keyboard is GLUED to the top cover with sticky tape.
Carefully separate the keyboard from the top cover. The tape is very sticky.

sam,
Possible RAM (memory) failure. Try reconnecting memory modules. Test the laptop with each memory module separately. Try replacing memory modules.

I had to switch the power adapter and that meant removing the keyboard. I’m a typical end user. Reconnected everything. Keyboard and everything works, except the keyboard backlight is not lighting. I read and tried FN Z on off key function, doesnt work. I changed the illumination to on all the time, doesnt work. Can someone tell me how the connection lighting the keyboard is plugged in? perhaps I plugged it in wrong way or something?
