Disassembly guides for Toshiba Satellite M65 series laptops
Here are two different disassembly guides for a Toshiba Satellite M65 series laptop.
The first guide will explain how you can take apart the display panel. You can use this guide for removing or replacing LCD screen, video cable or screen inverter.
The second guide has instructions for removing and replacing keyboard, DVD drive, hard drive, memory, wireless card, motherboard, CPU and other parts located inside the laptop base.
Are you looking for spare parts for your Satellite M65? Here are some of them. Search on Google for the following part numbers:

I have a Toshiba M60-183. It struggles to bootup after it has been off overnight. It can take up to 20 presses of the on/off switch before it boots up. After pressing the on/off switch it tries to boot i.e. the HD will spin, the USB mouse lights up for about 10secs then everything switches off and the on/off switch has to be pressed again. This will happen, sometimes up to 20 tries then it will boot and work normally until the next bootup.

khgad,
Is this 1-pixel line the only problem on the screen? If yes, there is a problem with the LCD screen itself. Unfortunately, you cannot fix this problem. You’ll have to use the laptop as is or replace the screen.

Al,
You’ll have to remove the top cover. You can see the CMOS battery on the step 18 in the second guide. It’s located on the lower part of the motherboard, on the left side from the square Intel chip.
Removing the CMOS battery will not clear the BIOS password, don’t even try.
Just in case.

I took apart my Satellite M65-S9093 to fix the PCMCIA slot and during disassembly, 2 black washers fell out after removing numerous 4mm and 6mm screws. Any idea where these go? For motherboard isolation?

Any Idea why my wireless card, memory module and modem card cover sticks. It seems like I am going to break it if I pull on it harder.

Marcelo,
Unfortunately, I cannot help with that. Make sure the CapsLock key is not turned on.

Ken,
I believe that Satellite M60 laptop is very similar to Satellite M65.
I published a guide for removing the motherboard from a Satellite M65 laptop on http://www.irisvista.com/tech/
Check out the guide.
By the way, on most Toshiba laptops the video card is integrated into the system board and cannot be removed or replaced separately. Before you start taking the whole thing apart, make sure you have a discrete video card.

Mark,
Can you see any image on the screen at all? Look very closely, the image could be very dim.
If you can see the image, but the screen is very dark, it means the backlight is not working properly.
That could be related to the inverter board or backlight lamp.
I don’t know yet. First, you have to find if there is an image on the screen with it’s dark.
The inverter board is a power supply for the backlight lamp. When inverter fails, the backlight doesn’t turn on. Anything else will work fine, except the backlight. You still should be able to use the laptop with an external monitor attached to the VGA port.

Hi, my Toshiba M60 has some major display problems: multiple vertical coloured lines and strange artifacts and other weirdness. I was told that I would need to change the screen but I’d like to swap out the video card first to check. Reading your comment above about the video card being integrated onto thee system board on a lot of Toshibas, how can I tell if mine is integrated or not? (Sorry I’m not very PC literate)

My Toshiba laptop powers up fine, but the screen is only on when the lid is about 1 or 2 inches open. As it is fully opened the screen goes black. When I close the lid, the screen lights up again when it is open 1-2 inches. As the computer warms up, I can open the lid a bit further, until it is open about 45 degrees. What needs to be done? Thanks

I have used your guides twice now and find them very helpful. I just sent another donation. My use today was disassembing the screen on my Toshiba Satellite M65 and replacing the LCD display. This note is to advise you that you need an additional step between steps 6 and 7 to remove the two hinge screws exposed after the bezel is removed. Other than that, the instructions worked perfectly. Thanks!

Ben Gray,
Thank you for your generous donation!
It looks like I missed one step. I’ll fix it when I have time. Thanks for the correction.

I need to replace the fan on my Toshiba Satellite m65. I looked at several sites and confused. Do I really have to take the whole thing apart? Like taking off the screen etc? Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance AWD

A.Doos,
Yep, you have to follow all steps in the second guide until the motherboard is removed. The cooling fan is mounted inside the laptop, under the motherboard. There is no easy access to it from the bottom of the laptop.

Excellent How-To, used twice so far on M60-104. Once to replace Screen, the second to replace cooling fan. First job smooth and fixed, second smooth, but finding a new fan is a nightmare, but that is another matter which has yet to be resolved.
Only additional notes was I found one of the bottom case screws ran through a unsoldered nut on the MB which once loosened, needed pliers and screwdriver to complete removal. There is no rubber block on the M60-104. No biggie.
Many thanks…Appreciated…

i have a Satellite M60-104, which is about 4/5 years old,it was used as a backup to a newer pc and worked ok. Then my son borrowed it and had it on for quite a long time in a fairly hot environment. During this period, it stopped working, now wont turn on and makes a strange grinding tapping sound. The fan sounds as though it is working ok but nothing boots. any ideas? i suspect a major meltdown but might it be something fairly straight foreward………..!!!(heres hoping)

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I need to replace the lcd hinges (just the left one). after removing the securing strip/hinge cover and the lcd bezel, I see the hinge and where it is broken. Do I need to disassemble the entire laptop to replace the hinge like is shown for the a45, or can I just detach the lcd screen and take out the screws attaching the hinge to the computer base and replace them?
