Taking apart Toshiba Satellite P100 and P105 notebooks
These guide will show how to take apart Toshiba Satellite P100 and P105 notebooks. This model is very similar to many other Toshiba models and shares the same disassembly steps.
In order to remove the DVD drive on this model you’ll have to get under the keyboard and remove one screw securing the drive. For the DVD drive removal follow steps 5,6,7,13. The screw witch secures the DVD drive is shown on the step 12.
If you are replacing the keyboard, it’s not necessary to remove all screws and parts from the bottom of the laptop. Just pop up the keyboard bezel, remove six keyboard screws, disconnect the keyboard from the motherboard and replace it. For the keyboard replacement follow steps 5,6,7.
This disassembly guide would be the same for a Toshiba Satellite P100 notebook, except that P100 has a discrete video card pictured on the step 21.

Tony,
Nope, it will not help. Try removing the SD card with a thin sharp object, something like dental pick. I’ve done it a few times before.

babylonx,
Is your laptop a US model? Can you give me the laptop model number?

OUSMAN JAMMEH,
Could be overheating problem. Apparently, the heat sink is clogged with dust.
Make sure the cooling fan and heatsink is clean. Blow off dust with compressed air.

I own this model and the screen has a defect (a vertical stuck pixel line appeared) so I decided to replace it. It original screen is an LG Philips LP171WX2. I ordered a compatible one (LG Philips LP171WP4). It has the same resolution, 30 pin connection, 1xCCFL. That screen didn’t work. CCFL was active but the screen was blank. I assumed it was defective so I returned it and bought another from another source. They also sent me the same model (WP4) but it didn’t work again!
Was the screen defective again or is it just a compatibility issue? Could you propose some brands/models that are compatible? I am going for an AU Optronics now…

Thanks for the guide.
A friend got an SD card stuck in the card reader on a P105-S6147.
Its in about 1cm from the entrance. Will disassembly give access to eject the card?
I recall on the few laptops i’ve opened that some card readers are sealed units.
Thanks.

Hey there, had a big problem which sent the laptop to sitting in the closet in the case for a few years because i was hopeless. Had a problem with overheating and constant restarts, then when we opened it to see the problem the cable connecting the lcd display somehow got disconnected, is that cable accessable easily, i just want to make sure i get that fixed, then hopefully figure out what the overheating issue is.

Hi,
I have done the steps 1 to 10 on my P100 until i realized that there was just the video cable disconnected. I fixed that and putted all together again.
But now, when i want to turn on my P100, it immediatly turns off again (after ca. 0.5 second).
Does anybody have an idea what could be wrong/broken?
All i have touched is:
- removed the HDD,
- removed the covers of the memory and wireless (didnt remove the memory boards nor wireless)
- removed the switch board and the keyboard
What could i have destroyed/done wrong?
I really hope someone can help me!
Ivo

” Step 7 could use a little more detail and the alternative pics showing the keyboard connector do not help on a p105. I am stuck not know how to remove the ribbon keyboard cable i see no locking connector on mine. Can someone please help. All i see are a white plastive and a black plastic on the ribbon cable.”
Well, these hokey locking systems are not all the same. The one you have has these microscopic interlocking arms on each side that you will need to very gently release with a tiny screwdriver while pushing the black part towards the lcd screen. It may help to get a good look at it with a magnifying glass and a flashlight. Hope that helps!

jane,
Maybe the memory module is not installed correctly. Try reconnecting memory.
By the way, the card reader is integrated (soldered) into the motherboard. The card reader cannot be removed or disconnected.

hi folks,
i wanted to take apart the notebook because of the sd card reader whivch i wanted to unplug in my satego p100. The problem was that the notebook needed like half an houer for startup because the card reader was damaged.
Now i deassembled it up unto step 10.
Then i disconnected the audio board cable – thinking it was the right one. after noticing that it wasn’t the right cable i reassembled everything back. but now, the notebook doesn’t boot. pressing the power button has no effect at all…
Where have I done sth wrong? may you help me?

Hi thanks for your great assembly guide, for the Satellite Pro P100. It enabled me to disassemble the beast completely.
A word of warning is that some models have a bluetooth antenna cable connected from the LCD to a small PCB near the USB board. I accidentally snapped mine, because I failed to notice it.
Kind regards
Scott

Hi
Thanks for providing the guides – very kind.
I’m tring to access the interior of my P100 to investigate what damage has been caused by mistakenly attaching an 18v supply. (Is there a fuse or such inside?)
I have followed the instructions and removed all the screws shown on the diagram but the underside of the casing will not detach. It seems to be held somewhere in the middle (the perimeter opens to a gap of about 2cm all round). Once the screws are removed are there any clips to release in order to remove the base?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Great handy guide! I followed it to replace the fan/heatsink. But……….now after reassembly there is no SOUND. Took it all back apart (after sucessful reassemble and startup!) and rechecked all the wires/sound card. All looked good; no sound on bootup. Next, removed sound card device manager, reboot, reinstalled sound card driver automatically; says working…still no sound. Ideas?

Kyle,
I believe in a Satellite P105 the DC jack mounts to the base assembly. If the mounting bracket is broken, you’ll have to replace the base assembly or find another way to mount the jack.
Base assembly part number: A000005670.

Continuing to take apart the Toshiba 105 can you please advise how to remove the cable from the touch pad? Step 12 this page: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-p105/take-apart-2.htm
thank you for the great advice!

Larry,
The black plastic piece is the locking clip. The connector opens like a door on hinges. Take a look at this picture: http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Acer-TravelMate-3260/remove-power-board-08.jpg
It’s same type of the connector. It’s shown in the unlocked position.

Step 7 could use a little more detail and the alternative pics showing the keyboard connector do not help on a p105. I am stuck not know how to remove the ribbon keyboard cable i see no locking connector on mine. Can someone please help. All i see are a white plastive and a black plastic on the ribbon cable.

Dune,
Make sure the LCD screen is properly connected to the video cable.
