Taking apart Toshiba Satellite P100 and P105 notebooks
These guide will show how to take apart Toshiba Satellite P100 and P105 notebooks. This model is very similar to many other Toshiba models and shares the same disassembly steps.
In order to remove the DVD drive on this model you’ll have to get under the keyboard and remove one screw securing the drive. For the DVD drive removal follow steps 5,6,7,13. The screw witch secures the DVD drive is shown on the step 12.
If you are replacing the keyboard, it’s not necessary to remove all screws and parts from the bottom of the laptop. Just pop up the keyboard bezel, remove six keyboard screws, disconnect the keyboard from the motherboard and replace it. For the keyboard replacement follow steps 5,6,7.
This disassembly guide would be the same for a Toshiba Satellite P100 notebook, except that P100 has a discrete video card pictured on the step 21.

Hello, I dismantled my P105 but coudn’t see the bios battery, can anyone tell me where it is?

Just to add to the excellent guide, to cover other models in the p100/p105 series:
In step 11… there may be an antenna cable for the bluetooth, this depends on the model of the P100/P105
In step 12… there may also be a connector to the right of the Touchpad cable, that powers the blue LEDs on the speakers.
Also in the top right corner you may also have to disconnect the ribbon cable for the bluetooth.

I have been having a problem with my Toshiba Satellite P105-S6104 and the DC-IN power jack. I think that it is loose inside and I cannot get the power to run to the laptop. I dont know much about computers but my dad has been helping me. I think I found the part that I need here.
But I dont know how to replace it. I took it apart but there seems to be a casing around the DC jack and I cant figure out how to get it out. Sometimes, if I wiggle around the ac adapter when it is plugged in I can get some power or enough to cahrge the battery when it is off. When there is battery life then there is nothing else wrong but this. I would really rather not have to take my laptop in and pay a fortune to fix this when I am pretty sure it can be done by yourself. If anyone can help me that would be wonderful!
Thanks!

Mihail,
As an example you can use this guide for removing LCD from a Satellite M115. It’s very similar to P100/P105.

Hello. Can anyone tell me how to dismantle and change the lcd on Toshiba P100-387( either tutorial or video). I will order new screen cause my original one has one dark spot around 1cm long

Well I had similar problem with power on Satellite P105, when on power it would start eratically and misbehave, or not at all… took it apart, tested jack – all good then looked closely on DC plug and found problem – inner connection (+) got loose, all it needed to press metal half round piece back to center through two notches on the front of the plug with thin scredriver. Wasted two hours (not quite -learn how to take it apart and put toghether
)

cj2600 thanks, i doubt i could have done it without your guide, specially since i was using my cell phone to see the guide haha! now looking at step 21, model p100 has a video card, whats that fan number? im thinking all that empty space could be used to mod the laptop for additional cooling, like another fan blowing air from the side towards the cpu with an on/off switch, instead of using the external laptop cooling pads with fans.

ryan,
Will it run from the battery at all? Do you know if the AC adapter is working properly and outputs the correct voltage?
From the description it sounds like you have either bad DC jack or motherboard problem.

celbertin,
Not sure what’s going on but I have a guess.
It’s possible you have a heat related issue. Toshiba laptops have its own power management software and maybe your CPU processing speed is set to medium when the laptop runs on the battery power.
When you plug it the AC adapter, the CPU runs full speed and with all programs running at the same time it simply overheats and shuts down.
Possible solution: Take a look inside the heat sink and if it’s clogged with dust blow it off with compressed air. In short, clean the heat sink and it will fix your heat related issues.

athur,
Apparently, there is a problem with the battery charging circuit on the motherboard. You’ll have to use the laptop as is or replace the motherboard.

Cindy,
It’s hard to tell. There is a possibility that you’ve damaged the backlight, but I don’t know for sure.
The only way to find out what is wrong is testing the laptop with another KNOWN good inverter board or backlight lamp. Without that you can only guess.

Ian,
The best way to find a replacement would be searching by the original part number.
1. Remove the DVD drive.
2. Find the part number. Usually it’s located on a sticker.
3. Google the part number.
If you purchased your laptop in the USA, you can give me the laptop model part number and I’ll look up the DVD drive part number for you. Most likely there is more than one drive available.

my laptop has gone from being able to work on the mains without charging the battery, to not having any power at all, it wont run off the mains, i’ve taken it apart and there is no signs of burns or scarring on the motherboard, i’ve tried using different power supplies and nothing works, could it be the wires between the jack and the socket on the motherboard? please get back to me as soon as possible, its kinda urgent

I have a P100 that, when working on battery power, works perfectly, but when plugged in, it crashes if I use programs that tax the system (video games, firefox open with 40 tabs, all of which have youtube videos on them.. things like that)
what could it be? It is just so weird that it works perfectly on battery power, but on AC power it does.
Does anyone know what I could do to solve this?
thanks!

i’ve had a similar problem, you might have a faulty connection between the motherboard and the DC jack, try taking it apart and disconnecting and reconnecting the jack.
i’ve got a different issue, i have disconnected and reconnected the DC jack after the jack’s frame broke and the whole unit came out, i’ve reconnected it but now the laptop isnt even running from the mains, its not registering the power being there, its gone from running on the mains and sometimes charging the battery to neither. any help?

Thanks for the guide! My P100 will only run on mains, the orange charge light flashes all the time and I’ve tried replacing the battery but it just ran down and the same thing, it didn’t charge back up.
Any ideas?

I have a Toshiba Satellite p105-s6157. I got an LCD inverter from ebay and it lite up the screen beautifully, but it didn’t fit properly. So, I ordered one from /invertercentral.com. To make a long story short, I’ve exchanged with RMA’s 3-4 times and still can’t get it to light up the screen. This has been since 10/16 and today is 12/9. I finally asked for a refund with no results. Does it sound feasible that the bulbs may have burned out in the meantime? Or should I order another LCD inverter elsewhere?

just in case it doesnt fit, where can i find this mounting bracket you talking about?
Thanks for the reply
November 15th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Jimbon,
You can use a 9.5 mm hard drive instead of 12.5 mm drive but I’m not sure if you have to buy a different hard drive mounting brackets. It’s possible that you can use mounting brackets from the old 12.5 mm drive for your new 9.5 mm drive.

How do I “unlock” the plugs on the P105? I read the directions and viewed the image, but the connectors are different. Please help.

Go,
Take a look at the guide for a Satellite P205 laptop. Should be similar to P105.

Is there any guide to replace the screen? I have the screen with broken pixel (line) and I just bought the replacement. I just wanted to see if there was any guide for it.
