Removing and cleaning cooling fan on Satellite 1800 or 1805
This guide will show how to remove and clean the cooling fan on a Toshiba Satellite 1805 or 1800 laptop. In this model you cannot simply access the fan from the door on the bottom of the laptop, you’ll have to get under the keyboard. As on most Toshiba laptops you access screws securing the keyboard after you remove the keyboard strip (steps 1-3). Do not disconnect the keyboard from the motherboard, just flip it over on the palm rest. Now you can disconnect the colling fan from the motherboard, remove it and clean with compressed air.
Before you install the cooling module back into the laptop, do not forget to apply a think layer of new thermal grease on the CPU. The old thermal grease can be removed with an alcohol wipe.

Can not use guide to upgrade Toshiba 1805-S203 laptop CPU. The CPU socket is not shown in the picture, which has a open and closed side.
Can you show exactly how to take the CPU out for 1805-S203?
Thanks,

Jacky,
This laptop has a tricky CPU socket, there is no screw to open/close the socket like on most other Toshiba laptops.
Here’s how you can unlock the socket:
1. There is a lock-slider on the right site of the socket. Move it into unlocked position.
2. Insert a flat head screwdriver into the notch on the left side of the socket.
3. Rotate the screwdriver left to right. It will slide the locking mechanism into the open position.
Now you can lift up and replace the CPU.

Here we go. I found service manual for Satellite 1800 series laptops. You’ll find instructions for removing the processor in there.

Will this be the same steps for a satellite a100/a500?

Andy,
For a Satellite A100 you can use instructions for Satellite A105.
