Alex,

A while ago I cracked the screen on my M55-S331. I was wondering if I have to put the same exact replacement 14″ screen or can I use one off a different model? And how will I identify witch is the screen I need?

Yes, you have to use a 14" screen because any other size will not fit into the case, but there are many different screens compatible with your laptop.
Just search eBay for "Satellite M55 screen" and find one. There are a few screens listed for your Satellite M55-S331.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba M55-s139 running 7, one night everything was perfect. I turned off the unit and the next morning while booting I saw the Toshiba boot screen with a yellowish blueish color at the bottom of the screen as the boot proceeded it went to the windows boot screen with the same colors at the bottom of the screen then went black.

Thought I would try the reset routine with the battery out and power unplugged, I held the the power button for about a minute then with out the battery and just the power plugged in powered up the unit with the same results.

My question is:
Should I replace the CCFL tube or the inverter? if you think they are the problem in the first place.

Thanks for your reply

PeggyLo,

On my M55-S3292 the screen has gone very dim, in fact mostly black, unless you look very closely. I have pressed Fn+F3 & F4, and I can barely see the “sun” icon in the center of the screen when it is pressed, but it does not brighten up. I have tested the VGA port and it works. Do you have any idea what the issue might be?

Most likely it's either bad inverter or failed backlight lamp.
1. Try replacing the inverter board.
2. If new inverter doesn't help, replace the LCD screen.

Microbiosoft,

I not sure but I saw two very small black point in the lcd inveter maybe caused by short not sure

I doubt that your problem is related to the inverter board. The screen lights up so the inverter board works properly.
Most likely it's one of the following:
1. Bad connection between the video cable and LCD or motherboard.
2. Damaged video cable.
3. Damaged LCD screen.

I cannot tell which one is causing the problem without testing the laptop.
