Thanks. I’m going to replace the backlight but not sure which one I should get. I think the one I’ll need is 2mm x 305mm — is that the correct size? (the LCD screen is Sharp LQ150X1LHC3 B, the laptop is A25-S279)

Well another problem with my Satellite A25-S279. Yesterday images on the screen became very red, then later the screen started to flicker. I shut the laptop down after a while, today when I restarted there was basically no picture. I connected an external monitor, I get a good picture, and by playing with Fn F5, I’m able to get a picture on the laptop LCD, but it only lasts about 5-10 secs (on the external monitor no problem, image stays).

Sounds like you have a faulty backlight lamp. I don’t think it’s related to the inverter board.

I can see a very faint image on the LCD. Flashed the BIOS to v 1.4 (latest) to see if that helped, no luck. Since I get a good image for about 10 secs, I assume the backlight is good and cable connections are good, and that it is the inverter that fails after a few secs. Is that a good diagnosis? I don’t want to buy a new inverter only to find the problem is backlight or cables or something else, so advice is very much appreciated.

Hi, I’m the one with the noisy secondary fan. I finally disassembled the laptop completely and got to the fan. Can’t see anything obviously wrong with it, but it is very noisy. It seems to be cooling the memory — is that likely, or could it be cooling something else? Also, what would happen if I just don’t replace it? Would that harm something — memory overheats? Advice very much appreciated — the fan noise is driving me nuts.

I guess you are asking about a Satellite 2450-S402 laptop?
Check out these part numbers. They are for a Satellite 2455 laptop but should fit your laptop too.
Left hinge: P000368300
Right hinge: P000368310
