Victor,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-S331 and the screen is black if I shine a flashlight to the screen everything looks great no color drift or discoloration. I tried to replace the inverter but that was not the problem. Was thinking that the CCFL back light is bad.

I think you are correct.
If replacing the inverter board didn't help, most likely this is the backlight lamp failure. You'll have to replace the LCD screen.

Sergio,

I have an M45-S351 and the screen is kind of faint/diff colors at the sides.

There is also a white vertical line across the screen (this seems to be a problem with the connector, since pressing on top it changes color and even disappears).

Do you think I should replace the screen?

First of all, test your laptop with video on the external monitor. If external monitor works fine and the problem appears only on the laptop screen, most likely you have a problem with the screen and it has to be replaced.

Paul,

I have a Toshiba M45 Satellite Laptop. It has worked well. I have a problem with it now. It went to Standy-by, but now will not turn back on. No Power.

This same problem occurred about 2 months ago. After it sit for a while w/o the battery, it came back up and worked well for until last week.

Do you have any idea what the problem could be? I took it to Tiger Direct and they told me it was the power supply or motherboard?

It's hard to tell which one is failing.
I don't think it's related to the power supply because when it fails, it fails completely.

You said the laptop will not turn back on and there is no power? Are there any lights when you plug in the power adapter of the laptop appears to be completely dead?

Is there a CMIO's Battery? If so, where is it located?

Ranji,

my toshiba M45-s165 screen went black(no display at all).

Is it really black? Take a closer look, maybe you can see a very dim image?

I connected an external monitor to the VGA port and is working fine.Help me.Is it the fault of “FL inverter” ?

When inverter fails, you still should be able to see a very faint image on the screen. Can you?
Yes, it's possible to replace the inverter board. I linked to the disassembly guide in the post.

I have been using my Toshiba M45-S331 since year 2005, almost every single day. A few weeks ago my screen started turning slowly white and when this happens the screen freezes. The problem has become worse in recent days. I have managed to use the laptop by putting pressure on top of the monitor towards left by a paperclip. My suspicion is that the connections have become loose. Do you agree with me? How can I fix this problem?
Thanks very much
