Toshiba Satellite M45. Removing LCD screen and replacing FL inverter board
Toshiba Satellite M45 display disassembly guide will help you to remove the LCD screen and replace the FL inverter board. It is very easy to take the laptop display assembly apart, but you have to be careful. Never use screwdrivers to separate the LCD mask from the screen top cover! To remove the LCD screen mask use your finger. Put your fingers between the LCD mask and the screen and start separating the mask from the LCD screen cover. Sometimes, when the mask plastic latches are tight, I use a guitar pick to disengage them. I put the guitar pick between the mask and the top cover and slowly move it along the side. The screen mask is made of very thin plastic and you can easily break it if you not careful. After the mask is removed, everything is straight forward. In this model the video cable is glued to the LCD screen so you have to use some force to separate it from the screen. When you unplug the inverter board cables do not pull the wires. Use the connector edges to unplug it.

Question on cables removal from motherboard on M45 series STEP 17
Although this probably holds true for every model, I am unsure how to remove the cables from the mother board without breaking the locking tabs.
I had to remove a similiar style cable on a Playstation 2 and broke the locking tab but was able to use tape to keep the cable from moving when I did reassembly.
Is there a special tool that is used? I am thinking a guitar pick but that seems too wide and probably break the clips.
thanks, tom

My inverter does not need to be replaced, I was just stupid and cracked the screen, do I still need to remove that or can I skip that step?

I had a problem with the backlight on my Toshiba M45-S331. I bought a new FL inverter board and installed it a month ago. Everything ok. But two days back the problem comes again. It comes on for a short period of time and then goes out. I can see a dim image when that happens so I know it is the same problem. I tried to find out the real problem. But fails. I touched at the tips of the backlit with a probe of mulitmeter then its work better, when i remove it then the diplay goes off. i think some internal oscillation error is going on. Any body have any idea pse email me

Hello. I’ve got two toshiba satellite, (M45-169 and M30-801) The M45 has the lcd wxga(glossy) broken and the M30 has the mother board broken. I would like to know if i can put the screen of the M30 (mate) in the M45. The only thing it is no compatible are the wires for the inverter. Does anybody knows if there is a problem if i cut the wires of the mate screen (M30, green and pink) and match them with the inverter of the M45 (white and pink).
Thnks

I have replaced a broken lcd screen with a new one on Amilo M7440 laptop. The problem is that the machine starts but very dim and the function keys for brightness do not change the brightness. I can log on to windows xp but the screen is barely visible. Very dim. I suspect the backlight converter. If this is the case which I put to the panel, where would I get a backlight converter?
Thanks

Jerry,
The RTC battery in a Satellite M45 laptop is located on the motherboard. Take a look at the laptop disassembly guide, you can see the RTC battery on the step 26. It’s on the left side from the Intel chip on the bottom of the image.

Where is the RTC on an M45-S169?

Bob,
Did you get any image on the LCD after the laptop was dropped? Did the original LCD light up after that?
Make sure to check the video cable connection on the motherboard. It’s possible that the connector got loose and has to be reseated.

I just replaced a new LCD screen in my Toshiba Satellite A105-s4054. Everything is hooked upcorrectly, but I am not getting an image. It appears not to have power. Did I miss some switch I need to turn on to get the backlighting to come on. The computer was inital dropped and the LCD was smashed. I do get a image on a CRT. Thanks

Hi. Mine is an M45 S351. I’ve got the same problem as Mike (comment 8, works fine in Safe Mode but freezes in full mode after various intervals ranging from a few seconds of desktop to an hour or more. I’ve have tried everything suggested to no avail. Safe Mode with networking is fine for surfing, OpenOffice and most text/graphics but sounds, music, films etc freeze. Could there be a problem with the audio part of the motherboard? Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Before anyone breaks anymore laptops, pull the rubber pieces off from each corner and take the screws out. The repair will go much more in your favor…

I am in the same boat with the screen not working. I am considering replacing the complete screen. My screen worked fine, then one day it started having a red hue when I would start it up or bring it out of standby. After a couple minutes, the screen would be normal. Then one day it started blinking and moving, and then days later it died completely. I am wondering what this Toshiba LCD INVERTER part is and if it could be a cause?
Any help please. Thank you.

I was in bed with my Toshiba satellite tablet when the screen went completely blank although it was still on. Thought it was caused by a low battery or connection problem but after turning it off and back on there was nothing on the screen even when you can hear the computer boot up! Tried to connect to monitor and still nothing. By the way the screen does swivel.

Someone brought in a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S204. With the LCD screen and inverter connected, the laptop will work fine and look fine, but then turn off after about 5 seconds (completely off). If you hook up an external monitor and don’t use the LCD, it works fine. If you disconnect the backlight harness from the inverter, the laptop works fine, but of course you have no backlight and the LCD is very dark and unusable. Does this sound like a faulty inverter causing some sort voltage spike and killing the laptop?
P.S. I we have tried all the normal things like re-seating RAM, dvd, etc. All troubleshooting has come down to this: with backlight unplugged everything is fine, with it connected the laptop powers off seconds after being turned on.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45 and whenever I start up the computer, a Microsoft error report pops up and says that I have a problem with my FN key. Whenever I press down the FN key and F6 or F7 to brighten up my screen, it doesn’t work. I have already sent the error reports but Microsoft still hasn’t fixed my problem. Is there an easy way to fix this?

Jorge, I don’t know ur motherboard but your computer looks similar to a Satellite A105. she won’t boot from The cdrom if by chance she can try putting a password disk in and take that chance. If no avail then to get the pics of top & bottom of the motherboard beause besides a repair shop to go in is the other way. A guy by ElRiver told me his board has 2 contact point(pad500) told to him by a reseller,I don’t have 2 points. So once he was inside he crossed them with metal to clear the passwd. If u have none then try the battery removal unless it’s soldered. They say to cross the battery contacts(+&-) but I can’t say that’s safe. Last it’s the bios, on A105 phoenix doesn’t even label it so you will have a tuff time finding it cause it not conventional looking. Then you have to cross 2 contacts which hold the passwd memory. On line u can find similarities to the bios contacts but u have to have a good sence of skill on this also in the HD is the control panel there’s a program that controls the passwd(lol), urs is a sata then u will need to put a USB enclosure to access to another computer. If u can get in make ur way there and work on it, if not take out ur info, then format it, and try to boot again. These are last minute resources unless as I said there’s the repair shop which if they don’t charge alot go for it. That’s all I found out and as I’ve said I’m in the same boat as u, and I’m ready to shock the shite out of this battery because the owner has collision insurance on it and he’s ready to claim it, got luck Yagis.

I had a problem with the backlight on my Toshiba M45-S331. I bought a new FL inverter board and installed it a month ago. Everything worked fine. Yesterday it quit again. It comes on for a short period of time and then goes out. I can see a dim image when that happens so I know it is the same problem. Is it possible to replace the backlight, or do I need to replace the whole screen?
You have a very good website. Thanks!

What is the best way to extend the range of the WIFI card in an M45-S2693? You mention an FL inverter pcb-what is the purpose of this?
Thanks for your site!!!!

Where do you find replacement display screens? I own a Toshiba Satellite M45 S3553 and my son knocked it off the counter and the screen looks like someone shot it.
Help!

Nevermind the above the comment because I found out how to take off the frame!
However…as careful as I tried to remove the frame, some of the plastic teeth snapped. Reassembling the frame also resulted in unpleasant snapping sounds (Unfortunately, I ended up using double-sided tape to secure areas where the plastic teeth had snapped).

Hello, I have a question about removing the 4 corner masking seals. Are they bolts or just buttons glued down to hold the LCD frame in place, because I’m afraid once removed I cannot put it back together.

Thanks for providing such great information! Do you happen to know where I can locate the part number on the FL inverter? I have a Toshiba A25-S307, and, based on my research, it appears that there are two possible replacement inverters, P000354880 and P000352650.
