Toshiba Satellite M45. Removing LCD screen and replacing FL inverter board
Toshiba Satellite M45 display disassembly guide will help you to remove the LCD screen and replace the FL inverter board. It is very easy to take the laptop display assembly apart, but you have to be careful. Never use screwdrivers to separate the LCD mask from the screen top cover! To remove the LCD screen mask use your finger. Put your fingers between the LCD mask and the screen and start separating the mask from the LCD screen cover. Sometimes, when the mask plastic latches are tight, I use a guitar pick to disengage them. I put the guitar pick between the mask and the top cover and slowly move it along the side. The screen mask is made of very thin plastic and you can easily break it if you not careful. After the mask is removed, everything is straight forward. In this model the video cable is glued to the LCD screen so you have to use some force to separate it from the screen. When you unplug the inverter board cables do not pull the wires. Use the connector edges to unplug it.

I have a Toshiba Satilite M55 . It recently fell off the couch. When I turn it on , it appears to work fine except the screen is dim . I can barely see an image , it looks like some one put a black screen in front of it. I was thinking it might be the Fl inverter board. Is there any guide to show how to repair it, Also where could i get the new part. Is it worth trying to fix or have a professional do it? I dont want to buy a new computer because it has a lot of my information for school on it. Its my baby, thanks for your help

I have a toshiba M45-S351 and it will only stay on in safe mode (no matter how many times I reinstall or what version of windows I use). I also tried loading Linux (Fedora Core 5) and something in the way linux checks the hardware shut the machine down immediately. Computer stays on in safe mode for a long time (will still freeze every now and then) but will not stay on for more than 5 min in regualar mode. I have checked the heat sink and it is clean as a whistle. I was wondering if the FL Inverter might be a problem? I am not even sure exactly what the FL Inverter does. Thanks for any help or advise you guys can give in advance.

I was just wondering what other tools can you use to separate the LCD mask from the casing? I have broken a few levers in the past and want to figure out how to not break them in the future.

Carlos Perez,
First of all, why do you want to replace the backlight? Are you sure it’s not a faulty FL inverter board? Here’s my post that has some laptop video troubleshooting tips.
The backlight bulb itself is located inside the LCD screen, on the bottom.

I need to replace the backlight for a Toshiba Satellite M45-S331. Could you please advise where the backlight is located (at the top or bottome of the screen). And brief instructions on how to replace it.
Thank you

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 S361, and need to replace the screen. Are the procedures the same as the M45 discribed here?

Lindsay,
Assembly process is kinda opposite to disassembly. You do the same steps but backwards.
